It’s time for a Team Canada approach to cybersecurity

If you’re reading this, it’s not too late.

While cyber threats are growing in volume and sophistication, we can take a made-in-Canada approach to the unique that we face as a country. After all, we’re stronger together.

At CIRA, we believe that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility and that all actors, whether individuals, businesses, associations or governments, can and should play an active role. It’s time to take a Team Canada approach to cybersecurity. This begins with investing in made-in-Canada solutions to keep our data sovereign and secure.

So, what does data sovereignty mean and why is it so important when it comes to cybersecurity?

Data sovereignty means that your personal data from your browsing habits to your banking information stays within the borders of your country. This can be a hurdle when your data is in motion. For Canadians, our data often flows to the United States subjecting our information to their infrastructure, their laws and their threats.

In October 2022, almost two-thirds (63 per cent) of cybersecurity decision-makers across Canada ranked data sovereignty as more important than price when selecting a cybersecurity services provider. In fact, respondents of CIRA’s Cybersecurity Survey were willing to pay more knowing that their data will be stored in Canada.

Investing in data sovereignty is a critical block to our cybersecurity foundation. And it can be tailored to the unique threats faced by different sectors across Canada particularly those critical to our livelihoods and well-being.

Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. When an individual protects themselves, that has a ripple effect to protecting valuable infrastructure and institutions.

Become a part of Team Canada today and invest in cyber solutions made for Canadians, by Canadians.
