By Shehnila Sayeed

CIRA’s nomination committee is inviting Canadians with an interest in advancing Canada’s internet to join the board of directors.

Becoming a CIRA board member is a unique opportunity to work with Canada’s internet leaders as they develop strategy and policy for.CA and the organization’s efforts to improve Canada’s internet. The skills, experience and expertise board members bring to the table will help guide CIRA as it fulfills its mandate to manage the .CA domain and build a trusted internet for Canadians.

This year, the committee is looking for individuals with the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in the domain name industry in which CIRA operates, including an understanding of the DNS, Registry systems, and related internet governance or IP addressing.
  • Deep financial acumen as a certified practitioner with advanced literacy in finance, audit, investment, and risk oversight.
  • Knowledge of key components of cybersecurity related to risk and threat management.
  • Ability to articulate views with evidence-based reasoning and bring a creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Understand environmental and internal risks, opportunities and implications that may impact CIRA.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to be open to others’ perspectives and build consensus.

It is important to note that positions on CIRA’s board are not considered entry-level. It is imperative that all board members have a solid understanding of the duties and responsibilities of directors and board governance in the not-for-profit and/or the for-profit sectors.

Interested individuals can submit their application to the nomination committee starting today. The application deadline is June 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. ET.
