Canadians Connected, CIRA’s premier event series for internet aficionados is hitting our next destination—Montreal!

Join us IRL on October 5 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST at Maggie Oakes. We’ll enjoy an evening of cocktails, passed hors d‘oeuvres, networking, a pop-up shopping experience from local .CAs and more! We’ll also hear from the who’s who of the Canadian internet space, learning how we can build a safe and secure internet in Canada. Please note that some components of this event will be English-only.

The details:

  • What: Canadians Connected: Montreal, an event bringing together internet stakeholders for networking and learning opportunities. Enjoy a complimentary drink on us, along with treats, entertainment and more.
  • Who: you’ll hear from Canadian internet stakeholders and local .CA businesses (including HappyTears.ca, Foonie.ca, ValerieCDesign.ca and LordViolet.ca)
  • When: Thursday, October 5, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST
  • Where: Maggie Oakes, 426 Pl. Jacques-Cartier, Montréal, QC H2Y 3B3
  • Cost: To ensure that everyone interested can attend the event, we have made it free of charge.

 

The speakers:

Andrew Overholt

Andrew is the VP of Engineering responsible for Mozilla’s web platform implementation, Gecko. His team of Mozillians from around the world are experts in building a world-class web browser engine that manifests Mozilla’s values.

Having an independent implementation of the web platform as a part of Firefox is important to Mozilla’s mission and vision of an open and accessible internet. Andrew and his team maintain solid working relationships with their colleagues across the industry and productively collaborate via standards bodies such as the IETF and the W3C.

Joe Catapano

Joe Catapano is the Director of Stakeholder Engagement for the North America region at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN); he also oversees ICANN’s academic engagement at the global level. In this capacity, Joe connects members of the private sector, civil society, government, academia, the technical community and end users with ICANN’s work in the global internet governance space, as well as its policy development processes.
