THE PROJECT
Remote communities across Canada, including many First Nations, still face significant barriers to accessing reliable high-speed internet, making connectivity in Indigenous communities a priority for CIRA funding. reBOOT Canada works to address this digital divide by providing computer equipment, training, and technical support to communities with limited access to technology. This project saw reBOOT hire Indigenous youth who were trained to be IT leaders in their communities, assisting with the installation and ongoing monitoring of free public WiFi hotspots within two Northern First Nations.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
In the first six months of the project, over 1,150 members of these communities gained access to this new connection source, with plans to continue expanding access and addressing barriers to quality connectivity by providing vital internet access.
