Candidate Statement

 

LEON “LEE” MORRIS
Lee was born in the United States and moved to Canada at the age of 10. He is a Mi’kmaq and grew up on the Sipekne’katik First Nations in Nova Scotia. He graduated from Dalhousie University and has over 30 years’ experience in the Information Technology Industry. With 20 of those years teaching for various Universities, Community Colleges, Private Career Institutions and First Nations Community Organizations.

 
Currently, he is the IT Projects Manager for Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI), Lead Instructor of the Advanced Indigenous Information Communications Technical Program for Collège Communautaire du Nouveau- Brunswick (CCNB) and Parttime Information Technology facilitator/instructor for New Brunswick Community College.
 
In addition, he is a Senior Field Engineer for a Cisco Gold Partner company providing advanced, on-site and virtual services for all levels of Government and businesses throughout the world. Also, he is a Certified Cybersecurity Specialist, providing Cybersecurity analysis, auditing, breach investigation, GCR, Threat intelligence and Ethical Hacking/Penetration testing through his own company, Ki’tpu Cyber & Technical Services (KCTS).
 
With over 20 current, industry certifications combined with his extensive knowledge and experiences, He has the ability, experience, and passion to teach all.
 
He volunteered as a technical advisor for the AtlantixIX (Internet Exchange), the Canadian Internet Exchange (CA-IX) and formerly sat on the ICTC National Advisory Committee on Cybersecurity Training.
 
His greatest achievements thus far, are his 2 daughters, 2 stepchildren and 3 grandsons and granddaughter, whom he affectionately refers to as his “Mini-Me’s” and “The Princess”.

CIRA is responsible for assigning and maintaining the official record of all .ca domains. Ensures the digital sovereignty of Canada’s contributions to the internet and protects Canadian Businesses and people online presence safe with secure DNS services and educates all on the dangers of the internet.

As an Indigenous, Canadian Business owner and IT Instructor, I feel it is important to ensure that CIRA has indigenous representation on its board, committees and to ensure that CIRA includes culturally relevant materials to Indigenous peoples.
