Candidate Statement
As a current CIRA Board Director and experienced executive with a strong record of board governance, I am seeking re-election to continue contributing to CIRA’s critical mission of building a trusted internet for Canadians. With deep expertise in technology, finance, audit, risk oversight, and strategic partnerships, I bring a results-driven mindset aligned with the Board’s identified priorities.
Throughout my career, including decades of CEO, President, and Board roles across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, I have demonstrated entrepreneurial leadership in technology, cybersecurity, and regulated industries. My oversight experience spans governance, M&A integration, digital innovation, and strategic & capital planning. I have an electrical engineering degree and M.B.A., and multiple certifications in cybersecurity oversight, ESG, DEI, and training in Indigenous data sovereignty (OCAP), ensuring inclusive and future-ready perspectives.
At CIRA, I’ve actively served on four committees – Finance, Audit, Investment & Risk; Products & Strategy; Compensation and the ad hoc SIDN partnership – supporting CIRA’s strategies, including registry growth via Hello Registry, the SIDN partnership, Net Good advocacy, XDR cybersecurity expansion, online safety, policy engagement and digital infrastructure stewardship.
The CIRA Board benefits from continuity, depth of insight, and diversity of thought. I offer all three, along with a deep commitment to stakeholder engagement, effective governance, and strategic execution. As CIRA navigates complex internet governance challenges, I stand ready to continue offering sound judgment, collaborative leadership, and a strong fiduciary compass to support CIRA’s evolving mandate.
Thank you for your consideration.
CIRA plays a foundational role in Canada’s digital ecosystem by managing the .CA domain and ensuring that Canadian internet infrastructure is secure, reliable, and reflective of Canadian values. As the steward of the .CA registry, CIRA protects a key element of Canada’s national digital identity, enabling citizens, businesses, and institutions to establish a trusted online presence.
Beyond registry operations, CIRA has expanded its impact through critical services in DNS security, cyber threat intelligence, and internet performance tools, all of which support Canadian organizations in an increasingly complex threat environment. CIRA’s role in cybersecurity has grown significantly, aligning with its responsibility to help build a safe and resilient digital Canada.
CIRA also serves as a non-partisan voice in internet governance, both domestically and internationally, advocating for a multistakeholder model that safeguards openness, innovation, and sovereignty in internet policy. It engages in meaningful public policy dialogue while defending principles like privacy, net neutrality, and secure infrastructure.
Through its Net Good program and community investments, CIRA ensures that the benefits of connectivity reach underserved populations, bridging the digital divide and promoting equitable digital access across Canada.
Ultimately, CIRA matters because it balances technical excellence with a public interest mandate. In a world where digital trust is eroding, CIRA remains a credible, Canadian institution that protects, promotes, and advances our national interests online. It is a vital enabler of Canada’s digital future… secure, inclusive, and sovereign!
I am enthusiastically seeking re-election to CIRA’s Board to continue supporting its mission of advancing a trusted, secure, and inclusive internet for Canadians. With the internet’s growing importance to national security, economic resilience, and social equity, CIRA certainly plays a uniquely strategic role in Canada’s digital future. I want to contribute to that future by offering strong governance, sector-relevant insight, and continuity at the board table.
My experience spans CEO and board roles across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, including cybersecurity, technology, regulated industries, and complex strategic projects. As an engineer with an MBA and certifications in cybersecurity oversight, ESG, DEI, and Indigenous data governance (OCAP), I bring a well-rounded and forward-looking perspective to board work. I’ve overseen governance, M&A integrations, innovation portfolios, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
During my first term, I actively contributed to four committees: Finance, Audit, Investment & Risk; Products & Strategy; Compensation; and the ad hoc SIDN partnership committee. This engagement has provided insight into CIRA’s operational priorities and strategic opportunities, especially around registry growth, Hello Registry, cybersecurity (XDR), and digital infrastructure.
I offer financial literacy, digital fluency, an entrepreneurial mindset, and cross-sectoral board experience – skills that directly align with the board’s desired competencies. I am also committed to board effectiveness, stakeholder trust, and national digital sovereignty. My continued presence would ensure governance continuity, deep institutional knowledge, and balanced judgment as CIRA navigates its next phase of growth.
Sustaining .CA Growth Amid Market Disruption:
With increasing competition from alternative TLDs and global registry consolidation, CIRA must continue to grow .CA registrations while reinforcing the value of .CA as a trusted national domain. The SIDN partnership and Hello Registry platform offer key opportunities to scale registry services and create sustainable revenue models.
Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Resilience:
As cyber threats intensify and digital trust declines, CIRA must lead in delivering robust, Canadian-controlled cybersecurity solutions. Expanding XDR capabilities and DNS threat intelligence services are critical to safeguarding institutions and infrastructure. CIRA also has a strategic role in national digital sovereignty and supply chain resilience.
Policy Influence and Internet Governance:
With Canada and international actors reassessing internet regulation, CIRA must strengthen its advocacy for multistakeholder governance and open internet principles. It must also navigate shifts in government engagement.
My executive and board experience, including CEO roles in regulated technology sectors and board service in healthcare, utilities, and aerospace—has prepared me to address these challenges with strategic insight and governance rigor. I have overseen innovation portfolios, cybersecurity implementations, M&A integrations, and cross-jurisdictional partnerships. My certifications in ESG, cybersecurity oversight, DEI, and Indigenous data governance reinforce a well-rounded, future-focused perspective.
As a CIRA Board member, I will continue to contribute diversity, deep operational insight, cross-sector context, and strategic acumen to ensure CIRA delivers on its public mandate while strengthening Canada’s digital trust, resilience, and competitiveness.
