Cortes Emergency Backup Internet

The Cortes Island Community Foundation is launching Phase 1 of a community-led initiative to ensure digital resilience during frequent power outages in Mansons Landing, the island’s primary service hub. The project will build a communications tower to deliver fixed broadband wireless internet to essential services including the firehall, ambulance, health clinic, school and community hall when existing providers fail. This infrastructure will serve as a backbone for future expansion to other underserved areas and support emergency preparedness, equity and long-term connectivity for rural residents.
