At CIRA, we recognize the need to operate the .CA top-level domain and all other operations in a sustainable manner on behalf of Canadians. For our people and our planet, we are committed to doing our part to pave the way for a sustainable internet. CIRA's environmental sustainability policy is made up of three pillars:
CIRA contributes towards creating an environmentally sustainable office where employees can thrive. This includes:
- Creating an environmentally sustainable office through a Green Team powered by staff engagement, educational activities, e-recycling and donation initiatives and promoting sustainable commuting options (Hybrid work, carpooling, public/active transit access, EV charging stations).
- Operating out of a LEED Silver certified building.
CIRA has committed to playing its part to curb operational greenhouse gas emissions. This is done by:
- Actively strengthening our data collection accuracy.
- Implementing sustainable procurement as it relates to equipment suppliers, where viable.
- Prioritizing data centre locations with lower grid emissions intensity, where viable.
CIRA is dedicated to building a greener internet in collaboration with our external partners by:
- Collaborating on and sharing strategic knowledge and best practices via our CENTR Sustainability Group membership and SIDN partnership.
- Publicly reporting on our progress towards sustainability goals and intensity metrics to contribute to a transparent and accountable internet community.
